Also, on the bill during an evening with Pinter is Landscape, the playwright’s classic study of the failure of communication between a man and a woman.

MEAT by James McDermott

Barns · Wingfield

Based on true events, Meat is set in Norfolk, 1742, and tells the story of a tailor condemned for sodomy and murder. Through an intimate and poetic lens, the play explores forbidden desire, secrecy, and the devastating consequences of living outside society’s rules. A haunting reflection on love, identity, and the cost of being seen. Meat by James McDermott is a bold and thought-provoking historical drama that explores identity, desire, and sexuality in rural England. Set in Diss, Norfolk, the play tells the little-known true story of Robert Carleton, a 17th-century tailor and his secret relationship with his apprentice Jon Lincoln. The story takes a dark turn when Jon’s fiancé, Mary, comes for dinner with the two tailors. Through powerful storytelling and poetic language, Meat reimagines Carleton’s experience with heart and humanity challenging audiences to confront the past while reflecting on how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go.

Quaker Meeting House · Northampton

On Wednesday 4 November, Baden Prince Jnr brings his show "What a Woman" to Northampton’s Storytelling at the Feast of Fools. "What a Woman" celebrates Baden's Caribbean heritage and honours his grandmother, who was his guardian between the ages of 1 -15 years. It consists of a mixture of folk tales, personal memoir, poetry and spoken word. By turns informative and entertaining, humorous and dark, it contains elements of the supernatural while providing insights into what it was like growing up in a vibrant Caribbean household headed by an indomitable matriarch. We’re delighted to welcome Baden’s return visit to the Feast of Fools. He has established a considerable reputation as a storyteller in recent years, with a series of appearances including the East Anglian Storytelling Festival, the Morocco International Storytelling Festival in Marrakesh, and in July of this year the Festival at the Edge at Bromyard; he’s also appeared at Bromyard, Cambridge, Chippenham and the New Forest Folk Festivals. Oh yes, and Glastonbury! … among others – the list keeps growing. He has a wonderful ability to engage the audience, between his warm presence, his quick wit and that most valu...
