Jazz at Trades, London Jazz Festival special, 17th of November

Walthamstow Trades Hall · London

Walthamstow's premier jazz night featuring London and the UK's finest musicians presents an EFG London Jazz Festival special! Reminiscing In Tempo is a new project featuring freewheeling reinterpretations of the music of Duke Ellington that has been put together specially for EFG London Jazz Festival by Jazz at Trades. Ellington’s music was constantly in flux, with many of his well known compositions being rearranged over and over again throughout his career (his first opportunity to record long form versions of his compositions on 1951’s Masterpieces By Ellington features an 11 minute long arrangement of Sophisticated Lady, that is almost symphonic in scope). With this adventurous and ever innovative spirit in mind Jazz at Trades has commissioned ambitious new arrangements of the music of Duke Ellington to be played by a group of improvisers who each, as bandleaders and composers themselves, are always seeking to expand the language of their own music: Kim Macari – trumpet Reiss Ellis Beckles – alto saxophone Riley Stone-Lonergan – tenor saxophone Nnamdi Nnachi-Cole – piano Tom Rivière – double bass George Grundy – drums Another evening not to be missed, we hope y...

EFG London Jazz Festival presents: Rosie Turton & Miryam Solomon’s MAAR

Green Note · London

Rosie Turton & Miryam Solomon present their duo album maar in a live context- an exploratory conversation between voice, modular synthesizer and trombone. Contemplative, textural, and at times fragile- it’s a space of searching, unraveling, and finding each other again. Rosie Turton is a trombonist, modular synthesist, composer, and producer making waves on the UK jazz scene. Named 'One To Watch' by The Guardian and nominated for Jazz FM's 'Breakthrough Act of the Year', she blends meditative soundscapes with acoustic and electronic elements. Miryam Solomon is a London-based vocalist, by way of Sweden and Eritrea. Her work is underpinned by her love for interlocking rhythms, vocal interplay, and storytelling. As an artist, performer and collaborator, her work spans a wide range of projects, most recently recording and performing with Florence + The Machine.

EFG London Jazz Festival presents : FERG IRELAND TRIO (Matinée Show)

Green Note · London

Ferg Ireland is one of London’s most versatile and in demand Bassists. He has performed across the world and recorded with some of the biggest Pop artists in the world including Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Jamie Cullum, Gregory Porter and Paloma Faith, and Jazz artists from the US and UK including: Jason Marsalis, Johnny O Neal, Leroy Jones, Nicole Glover, Ant Law, Roxy Coss, Jason Brown, Soweto Kinch, Empirical, Will Vinson, Alex Hitchcock, Kit Downes, Gwylim Simcock, Reuben James, Etienne Charles, Guy Barker, Jason Rebello, Ashley Henry, Kansas Smittys and the Ronnie Scotts Allstars amongst many others. His trio featuring MOBO award winning saxophonist Nathaniel Facey and ECM featured drummer James Maddren have been playing together for almost a decade and this is reflected in the telepathy of their musical conversation. The twists and turns of their dialogue delve deep into the dark heart of modern Jazz, with an alchemical blend of intense spiritual jazz, broken beat flavours, angular swing and playful conversations. They have built a cult following performing at festivals and venues in and around London, in both established mainstays such as Ronnie Scotts and the Jazz Cafe and g...
