Katie Spencer and Henry Parker Mid-Winter Tour 2026 Two leading lights of the modern day folk-guitar scene take their annual mid-winter concert on the road; an intimate solo set from each musician precedes a rare and joyous moment of collaboration to guide us gently into the festive season. Katie Spencer has become renowned across the UK, for her acute personal songwriting, performed with a signature deep vibrato vocal and a crystal-clear guitar style. She draws influence from Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill and Michael Chapman yet makes the music inimitably her own. Her latest album What Love Is, released in Autumn 2025 was met with critical acclaim, landing at #12 in the Official Folk Charts and achieved glowing praise in the nation's music press, described as “a master-class of inspired and beautifully-sounding craftsmanship” by KLOF Magazine. “Her articulate picking, with suggestions of folk and jazz, frames intelligently written songs and is the backbone to her music” Guitarist Magazine Henry Parker’s intricate folk guitar playing leans heavily into the open-tuned stylings of Bert Jansch and Nick Drake, whilst his own original songwriting dwells on themes of folklore, land...

An evening with Pavey Ark at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

Pavey Ark are a cinematic indie-folk band from East Yorkshire Atmospheric vocals, strings and horns glide over finger-picked guitar, melodic bass and complex percussion. The result is a beautiful orchestral-folk sound that evades immediate comparison. Upon further listening, the band’s wide range of influences start to reveal themselves – from the laid back ’60s and ’70s folk of Jackson C. Frank and Love, through to Nick Drake and Radiohead. Known for their sublime live shows, Pavey Ark played SXSW Texas in 2025, the Glastonbury Acoustic Stage 2022 and closed Cambridge Folk Festival (Stage 3) in 2023. Huge achievement for an independent act. Pavey Ark’s debut album, Close Your Eyes and Think of Nothing received excellent reviews from UNCUT, Record Collector, Folk Radio and BBC Radio 6 Music airplay. It was chosen by the BBC as one of their picks for National Album Day in 2022. Their second album, More Time, More Speed, was released in November 2025. The album was mixed by LA based producer Paul Butler (The Bees, Micheal Kiwanuka, Andrew Bird, Teskey Brothers). The band also worked with composer and producer Adrian McNally (The Unthanks) who led the live string quartet stu...

An evening with Luke Jackson at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

Canterbury based singer songwriter Luke Jackson has been touring and recording for over 10 years now, steadily developing an enviable reputation for himself in the Folk, Roots, Americana & Acoustic circuits. In addition to the UK, Luke regularly tours across Europe, USA and Canada. Between his debut album ‘More Than Boys’, through to his latest release in 2022, (coincidentally a re-recorded 10th anniversary version of ‘More Than Boys’) 5 records, including a live album were released to high praise and 5* reviews! September 2019 marked his first full solo tour in the USA and his last full length studio album ‘Journals’ was released in November that year to great reviews and was made ‘Album of the Year’ by Fatea Magazine, with R2 Magazine saying ‘Journals’ is an excellent album from a very special singer with a great repertoire, fully confirming his star potential beyond the folk scene’. After going back to both Europe and the USA in early 2020 for another two successful tours., Luke kept himself busy throughout 2020 and engaged with the musical community through a series of themed live stream shows. After a bit of a creative writing surge, released a 7 track EP...

An evening with Paul Armfield at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

Paul Armfield is a singer, songwriter, bookseller and lifelong lover of words and songs. Based on the Isle of Wight, he has spent much of his life moving between music and books — a combination that perhaps explains the literary quality of his own songwriting and his fascination with the great storytellers of popular music. With a strong nod to classic English and American songwriters, his songs also draw on the European chanson tradition, with Jacques Brel a particular influence. He has a rare ability to make a song feel like a short story: intimate, observant, sometimes funny and often quietly heartbreaking. Paul has released a string of critically acclaimed albums and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, building a devoted following along the way. He is equally at home performing his own songs or reinterpreting the work of other writers, bringing the same curiosity and affection to both. His music has attracted some impressive admirers. Guy Garvey, Chris Difford amongst them, with Caitlin Moran describing his music 'As toasty and lovely as Christmas morning' and Mark Radcliffe heaping praise on his 2020 album Domestic: 'I love this so much - sensitive, melodic, hea...

UPHILL GAME

El Rincon · Bristol

Absolutely cracking contemporary jazz quartet led by double-bassist Riaan Vosloo, and featuring the superb drummer Matt Brown (check out his amazing band 6161) plus the legendary Get The Blessing horn section of Jake McMurchie on saxophone and Pete Judge on flugelhorn. Riaan's choice of tunes, including his own beguiling originals, is always a delight and a surprise, and the band's obvious synergy belies their infrequent get-togethers. Part of their Winter 2026 tour. Big favourites at El Rinc…book early!! www.uphillgame.org.uk/
