About this event

An evening with Rose Ingalill & George Howard at Cafe No9 is on Wednesday 25 November 2026 at Cafe No9, Sheffield, with doors at 19:00. Tickets start at £16.50, including the booking fee.

An evening of songs and collaboration between two of our favourite young talented Sheffield based songwriters, recently featured in the line up of our latest Young Songwriter Showcase night. We thought these two deserved a double headline show of their own!! Inspired by the likes of Adrianne Lenker, Elliott Smith and Hayley Heynderickx, Rose Ingalill is an indie-folk singer-songwriter currently based between Sheffield and Glastonbury. Her songs are intimate and introspective, drawing on personal experience to explore universal themes: love, death, and the strange business of being alive. She writes to make sense of life, and to make peace with the inexplicable. Her debut EP, Necessary Evil, comes out on the 6th of November. ********************************************************************************** Sheffield native, George Howard is an upcoming singer-songwriter with a penchant for crafting fresh, folk-inspired numbers. Often touching on social issues, George aims to move audiences with emotive lyricism, finding inspiration from his own personal conflicts and relating these struggles to a wider audience. Looking to release his debut album of original material in 2026, George...

An evening with Paul Armfield at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

Paul Armfield is a singer, songwriter, bookseller and lifelong lover of words and songs. Based on the Isle of Wight, he has spent much of his life moving between music and books — a combination that perhaps explains the literary quality of his own songwriting and his fascination with the great storytellers of popular music. With a strong nod to classic English and American songwriters, his songs also draw on the European chanson tradition, with Jacques Brel a particular influence. He has a rare ability to make a song feel like a short story: intimate, observant, sometimes funny and often quietly heartbreaking. Paul has released a string of critically acclaimed albums and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, building a devoted following along the way. He is equally at home performing his own songs or reinterpreting the work of other writers, bringing the same curiosity and affection to both. His music has attracted some impressive admirers. Guy Garvey, Chris Difford amongst them, with Caitlin Moran describing his music 'As toasty and lovely as Christmas morning' and Mark Radcliffe heaping praise on his 2020 album Domestic: 'I love this so much - sensitive, melodic, hea...

An evening with Dom Glynn & His Sunday Best at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

“What do you get when you have an Englishman from Birmingham, UK, playing the sort of vintage two-steppin' tunes that country’s founding fathers would be proud of? The unique and intriguing sound of Dom Glynn & His Sunday Best.” – Holler Dom Glynn & His Sunday Best is the project of Birmingham-born songwriter and guitarist Dom Glynn, who has spent years immersed in the traditions of classic American country music. In his early twenties, Glynn was already performing extensively in venues across London, developing his craft through countless live shows inspired by his American musical heroes. Through years of dedication, he has developed a songwriting style rooted in the spirit of artists such as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr., alongside guitar work influenced by players like Mississippi John Hurt and Doc Watson. This deep respect for tradition underpins a growing catalogue of original material that feels both timeless and personal. In recent years, Glynn has toured extensively across the UK and Europe, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Ireland. Since 2023, he has been backed by His Sunday Best, an electric band featuring Laurence Kingston (telecaster), Roma...

An evening with Holly Carter at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

'Holly Carter is an award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Bristol, UK. Two-time recipient of ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the Americana UK awards (2023 & 2024) she is widely recognised as an exceptional fingerstyle guitarist and one of the UK’s only professional female pedal steel players. Drawing deeply from the well of the folk tradition, she harnesses an approach to song as a powerful tool for education and the preservation of legacy. Along with a showstopping approach to guitar that follows hot on the heels of the likes of Chet Atkins and John Fahey, her music weaves joyously catchy melodies with thought-provoking lyrics that pay homage to a diverse collection of musical and personal heroes. This show will be part of a run to mark five years since the release of Holly's debut EP 'All of You...and Me', which will be re-recorded and re-released to mark the occasion. It will also be a chance to sample some 'never heard before' songs that will feature on her second full length album (due for release in 2027) before they've even made it into the studio; a way to celebrate both old and new. Holly will be joined by Joe Wilkins on guitar for this intimate sh...

Amy Winehouse by Lucy Randell

Boisdale of Canary Wharf · London

“It’s rare you see such an effortless talent. Lucy is charismatic and cool through and through.” – Mathew Bridgeman, Promoter Lucy Randell approaches Amy Winehouse’s catalogue with a deep respect for its musical complexity. She emphasizes timing, phrasing and tonal contrast, the way Winehouse would land a word just behind the beat or hang a note into silence, rather than surface imitation. Lucy rejects mimicry; she interprets the songs through her own jazz and soul sensibility. Her career includes features with session groups and appearances around the UK and Australia, and she has performed at venues like Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and KOKO, stages Amy herself frequented. In a Camden Market event, Lucy articulated her method: “To sing Amy Winehouse you have to recognise that rhythm and tonal texture, and her timing. You really have to listen to how she lands her syllables.” Camden New Journal Expect a set drawn from Back to Black and Frank, delivered with Lucy’s own instrumentation and arrangements. Highlights often include “Valerie,” “Tears Dry On Their Own,” “Rehab,” “Back to Black,” “Love Is a Losing Game”. She yields space for the band...
