Hidden Rooms · Cambridge

Tim Whitehead tenor sax David Gordon piano Dave Whitford d.bass Tom Hooper drums In this latest album ‘Personal Standards Vol 3’, Tim Whitehead reflects on and re-evaluates the major projects, commissions and collaborations that have marked his distinguished career at the forefront of jazz. As Tim says ‘It’s a joy to bring together all these apparently disparate influences under one roof’. 'Those of us who have caught him live... have been left in blinking disbelief. It’s not just his mastery of the tenor, but the absolute conviction of his playing that is so impressive'. Dave Gelly Observer/BBC

Jean Toussaint Quintet JT5

Hidden Rooms · Cambridge

Since Jean left Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the mid eighties he hasn’t looked back. Nor has he spent a career trying to repeat the past. The experiences gained in that world-class hothouse have enabled him to push forward and embrace challenging, and often high profile, musical collaborations in many different jazz styles. ‘… undoubtedly one of the great tenors in recent jazz history’. DE ANIMA

El Rincon · Bristol

Brand new trio about which we are very excited. Bristol-based De Anima play “prog-& jazz-inflected ‘alt rock’, singing stories that explore intimate interactions, real life events and politics, often sourcing lyrics verbatim from unusual places” - but that description doesn’t really do justice to their beautifully unusual sound and harmony-laden vocals. They are guitarist/singer Jojo Holmes, drummer Matt Jones (see Nov 12th!), and bassist/singer Jen Bell. Check out their videos at www.de-anima.uk and then snap up your tickets!
