About this event

Dan Whitehouse: Only Love, with Molly Rymer and Paul Hussell is on Thursday 29 October 2026 at Arts Centre, Ashburton, with doors at 19:00. Tickets start at £8.80, including the booking fee.

Dan Whitehouse with Molly Rymer and special guest Paul Hussell This is a change from the originally advertised lineup, as Gustaf Ljunggren is no longer able to come to the UK. Black Country singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse returns to Ashburton Arts Centre for an evening of exquisite songcraft and storytelling straight from the heart. Joined by singer Molly Rymer, whose sublime harmonies bring fresh depth and colour to his songs, Dan will draw from his extraordinary back catalogue, plus his new album Only Love. This is an intensely personal solo-piano collection exploring love, resilience and fatherhood across continents, and the ties that bind us together. He'll also perform songs from his previous albums The Glass Age, Voices From The Cones, That’s Where I Belong and beyond. Expect unforgettable melodies, spontaneous musical magic, devastating honesty and moments of profound intimacy. Special guest Paul Hussell opens the evening with songs from The Ebbing Tide, his debut album, produced by Dan in Totnes. Paul will be joined by his wife, Carole on backing vocals.

Having made their home on Dartmoor, Dave Harbottle and Freya Jonas have spent the past few years gathering songs, stories, melodies and fragments from the landscape around them. Inspired by ancient tors, wooded valleys, rivers, churches and the people and stories of Devon, From The Moor To The Sea brings traditional material into conversation with new songs reflecting their own experience of putting down roots and raising a family here. The album’s title was inspired by the extraordinary journey of the wild salmon, travelling downstream from the moor to the sea before eventually finding its way home again. That image of landscape, journey and return runs through the heart of the record. For this special launch concert, Harbottle & Jonas will be joined by Corn...

Not Only But Also The Blues: James Dixon and Russell Sinclair

Arts Centre · Ashburton

James Dixon “Melodic, soulful and simply beautiful” BBC Introducing “A soul brother....got his fingers in the mud” Seasick Steve With a sound that is both raw and intimate, he engages his audiences across the country with heartfelt lyrics, soulful vocals and a guitar style described as “red in tooth and claw” (Americana-UK) Heavily inspired by Chris Whitley, John Martyn, Kelly Joe Phelps, Neil Young, Nic Jones, Chris Wood and Ralph McTell. James has a deep respect and passion for the long traditions of his instruments and music. At the same time he is driven by a strong urge to challenge the ossified conventions that keep some of these traditions from new ears. This dance between the past and the present is what makes James’s heart beat when performing. Choosing to reject effects pedals altogether, he chooses from a quiver of instruments including a beloved custom made 6 string cigar-box guitar called “The Weight” (after the Band’s classic song); a National Style 0 resonator; 1950s Harmony Silvertone and his Bulwark Guild dreadnought acoustic; all in various traditional open tunings. Well known in the UK cigar-box scene, James has been collaborating with Dirtbox...
