About this event

EFG London Jazz Festival presents : Midori Jaeger is on Thursday 19 November 2026 at Green Note, London, with doors at 19:30. Tickets start at £16.50, including the booking fee.

Midori Jaeger is a London-based cellist and songwriter originally from Japan. Her music has been championed by The New York Times, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, KEXP and Line of Best Fit. This year she released (Un/Re)planted, a powerful double concept EP of songs written at the cello, depicting uprootedness and mixed cultural identity. The cello itself is an instrument that was once a living tree plucked from the earth. In parallel, the songs express Midori's own journey as a child growing up in multiple continents, uprooted and forced to build roots on different soils. Midori is also a globally in-demand collaborator, including recently with Imogen Heap, Courtney Pine, Patrick Watson, Jessie Ware, Daughter and Christian Löffler. "Midori Jaeger has created something singular here: A world unto itself, percussive and human, feverish and tender." - Atwood Magazine “Amazing, a really original sound” - Jazz FM (Tony Minvieille)

A Different Thread

Green Note · London

Some things are just meant to be. Alicia Best (US) and Robert Jackson (UK) met while busking on the cobbled streets of Ireland and discovered both a musical and personal harmony that was serendipitous. In the decade since forming A Different Thread, Best and Jackson have taken their act on the road, touring over a dozen countries, supporting artists such as Milk Carton Kids and Jody Stephens (Big Star), and garnering critical praise from the likes of Folk Radio UK, which hailed the duo as “warm, deep songwriters that have drank from the well of 20th century tradition.” Their sound is transcontinental, blending Jackson's British folk rock background with Best's North Carolina-bred alt-country melodies. Informed by their life experiences (navigating visas, vanlife, love across oceans) and liberal commentary on both environmental and social justice topics. While inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers, and John Prine, A Different Thread maintain a distinct sound that is all their own.
