FIRE & RAIN

The Shire Hall · Howden

One of last years, or any other come to that, highlights... Without doubt one of the outstanding gigs of 2024 and '25 or any other year for that matter, it is a tremendous pleasure for Howden Live to welcome back the Fire & Rain show to Howden at the Shire Hall as a deserved part of our 40th anniversary celebrations.. ‘Fire and Rain’ is not a tribute or sound-a-like act. It’s simply a collection of six of the best musicians from the North of England coming together to play music they love. Expect the classic James Taylor songs including ‘Steamroller Blues’, ‘Shower the People’, ‘Fire and Rain’ and, of course, ’You’ve got a Friend’ plus many other classics played with skill, passion, emotion, humour and humility. ‘Fire and Rain’ are all highly regarded musicians in their own right and include Tom Townsend (Lead Guitar and vocals), Rich Adams (Acoustic Guitar, vocals and triangle!) Mark Gordon (Keyboards), Rowan Oliver (percussion) with Paul Tilley (Drums) and Bob Walker (bass). They occasionally put their own individual musical projects aside to perform the music they love and aspired them to perform, and to and to bring the joy of James Taylor’s music...

The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican

The Shire Hall · Howden

The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican's 20th Anniversary Tour: Two decades is too old to quit! Put on yer finest knitted gladrags, style your barnet, put on your dancing shoes and bring your finest singing voices, as we cordially invite you to witness the Greatest Show On Earth (in tank-tops). Founded in Barnsley Rock City in 2006 by their outspoken and energetic ringleader, Scott Doonican, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican are on a mission! Far from being your typical folk ensemble, this cult-like collective of like-minded knit-wear enthusiasts are determined to follow in their spiritual father’s immortal footsteps and keep his legacy alive. Scott and his brothers-from-other-mothers, Mo-Jo Doonican, Dave Doonican and the Rt. Rev. Jeremiah Rickenbacker Doonican III, have quite the talent for Bar-Stewardizing other famous people’s songs with new satirical comedy lyrics, on folk instruments. Alan wasn't in the line up when this show was originally announced, now he can make it. Alan! Alan! Alan! To complete their outrageously understated image, the Doonicans have become instantly recognisable in festival fields and venues up and down the country for their immaculate hair and th...

HDIF Children's Disco Halloween Party

The Phoenix Club · London

Date change! This is now happening on Halloween itself - Saturday October 31st! A Halloween edition of our all-ages daytime disco! Come and dance to indie pop, northern soul, and Motown, with some spooky gems and graveyard smashes thrown in for good measure. And, of course, if you feel like dressing up, then please do! Come and rattle your bones to "There's A Ghost In My House". "Monster Mash", and lots lots more! We've held the HDIF Children's disco at the End Of The Road festival since 2011, and they've been lots and lots of fun. We play our usual mixture of indie pop and soul, and the discos are a wonderful opportunity for kids to bop around to Belle & Sebastian, Allo Darlin', Ramones, Pixies and more, and for their parents to bop along with them. It can often be hard to get out to club nights once you become a parent, so these discos are as much a chance for the parents to go out dancing as they are for the kids. We also want to provide an alternative to the many rave-themed kids discos that are on offer in London. If you'd rather dance to your favourite indie pop and Motown songs with your children, then we're the disco for you! Music will be played at a reasonable level. We'l...
