Poppy and Pint, Nottingham

About this event

Kitewing is on Sunday 20 December 2026 at Poppy and Pint, Nottingham, with doors at 19:00. Tickets start at £16.50, including the booking fee.

This unique collaboration draws from the strengths of two of the UK’s most highly regarded folk acts: The Shackleton Trio and Christina Alden & Alex Patterson. With a shared passion for thoughtful songwriting and intricate arrangements, Kitewing brings a fresh and powerful voice to the contemporary folk scene, rooted in tradition but unafraid to explore new ground. Expect soaring harmonies and roaring fiddles, blending guitar, mandolin, and banjo. For our December concert we are promised a 'festive show'; repertoire will be a mixture of traditional carols, self penned seasonal material with an environmental leaning, seasonal tunes, and re-workings of some East Anglian carols. There will also be a handful of material that is performed year round in the set.

Midlands-born Sam Carter is a BBC Folk Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist. Known for his lyrical storytelling, Uncut once described his songs as being "as penetrating as Richard Thompson's best work". Carter's expressive fingerpicking led Jon Boden of Bellowhead to call him "the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation", while Ivor Novello-winner Nitin Sawhney has praised his "killer voice". With a discography that spans six solo albums and two releases with the folk-rock band False Lights, Carter's music reflects a blend of traditional English folk, shape-note singing, and rock.

Music and Afternoon Tea with Virginia Kettle's Rolling Folk

Bunbury Village Hall · Tarporley

What a perfect way to take a little time out from the pre-Christmas rush or to reward yourself for having finished all the shopping! An afternoon of musical delight either side of an afternoon tea (a hot drink and a piece of cake!!). For those of you not already familiar with the Rolling Folk, here's a few words of introduction! Virginia Kettle is the very heart of the multi award-winning folk-rock band Merry Hell. Her songs, spirit and energies have helped drive the band ever upwards, giving a significant outlet to her creativity, providing anthems such as Bury Me Naked, which had 20,000 fans swaying in a Cropredy field, as well as irresistible dancing tunes, and slices of wry humour as seen in ‘VIOLET’, her solo tour-de-force during the band set, where she often forgoes the need for amplification and wanders freely among the audience. Her solo album ‘No Place Like Tomorrow’ was a critical and popular success, hitting the heights of No.1 in the Amazon Folk Charts within days of its release. ROLLING FOLK As a prolific writer of songs, Rolling Folk gives Virginia the chance to share a variety of songs not included in Merry Hell’s sets. It is not a replacement for the band,...
