About this event

"Maria BC is a classically trained vocalist, a dexterous guitarist, and a songwriter with an innate gift for vast, stately melodies, but the defining strength of their music is the mood: an overarching melancholy that shadows everything like heavy storm clouds." — Pitchfork Ohio-born, Oakland, CA-based artist Maria BC (they/them) has slowly opened up their process over the years, moving from the one-room recording process of 2021 EP Devil’s Rain — careful not to disturb their roommates or neighbors — to the untreated apartment wanderings of Hyaline (2022, Father/Daughter), to the home of a family friend featuring an out-of-tune baby Steinway piano where they recorded their Sacred Bones debut, Spike Field (2023). 2026 will see the release of their sophomore Sacred Bones record Marathon — recorded across the West Coast, incorporating foley recordings of nature and creaking homes, out February 27th! Marathon is a dynamic exploration of endurance, of pushing forward, resisting, observing and surviving. “For this record I decided to spend less time on production and recording and more time on songwriting,” Maria BC explains. “The result, I think, is more thematically con...

Monde UFO

Just Dropped In · Coventry

Monde UFO, LA-based duo of Ray Monde and Kris Chau, are a monochromatic sunset for the senses. A sonic journey through psychedelia, space rock and jazz. A cosmic space where Spacemen 3 meets Vanishing Twin, by way of Sun Ra. In a downtown Los Angeles warehouse, on 7th Street, Ray Monde began writing songs on an old Yamaha church organ for a project that eventually became Monde UFO. Utilizing the organ as a bass, alongside keyboards and a drum machine, he began making demos on a four-track cassette recorder, adding only vocals and guitar to the organ pieces. He explored making haunting and optimistic sounds while living in Skid Row as a one-man band. Heavily influenced by the musician Sandy Bull, sonically landing in a similar no-man’s land of Worldly Jazz and Psych Folk. Monde experimented with the themes mostly of meditation and UFO lore. In time Ray moved in with the artist Kris Chau. With little crossover in musical tastes, they exclusively started listening to jazz, ambient and new age music in the house. Increased interest in sound baths and experimental music led to seeing music in a different light. Ray thought it would be interesting to add Chau into his slow burner music...

Esya & Annie-Claude Deschênes

Just Dropped In · Coventry

Eşya is the solo project from Ayşe Hassan (Savages); an unsettling, beat driven, and wonky exploration of alternate personas. Transgressing comfort zones by experimenting with the complex and contradictory ideas that can exist within one person. An industrial pop existential exploration -------- Annie-Claude Deschênes embraces multidisciplinarity in her quest to merge music and performance art, challenging stage conventions. A prominent figure in Montreal’s independent music scene for over twenty years, she gained recognition as the frontwoman of the cult bands Duchess Says and PyPy. Annie’s solo project marks a shift from aggression to dystopian disco vibes. Inspired by minimal pop and electronic pioneers, her debut album, LES MANIÈRES DE TABLE, is both danceable and disquieting, reexamining social codes of politeness.

The Klittens

Just Dropped In · Coventry

This five piece combines their love for pop music and dark sentiments with a punk ethos. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists - such as The Ronettes, MF Doom, Dry Cleaning and Kate Bush - they've crafted a sound that's truly and twistedly their own. What initially began as an outlet, both creatively and politically, mutated into a musical life mission for its members. Their DIY approach, from songwriting to releasing music and tour management, is what makes The Klittens the ragtag bunch of misfits they are. The band consists of Yaël Dekker (vocals), Winnie Conradi (guitar), Katja Kahana (guitar), Marrit Meinema (bass guitar), and Laurie Zantinge (drums).

The Early Years & Sennen

Just Dropped In · Coventry

The Early Years and Sennen head out for their first live dates together since 2007 on a UK tour this November. Now reunited as labelmates on celebrated indie imprint Sonic Cathedral, both bands grew out of the fertile UK shoegaze adjacent scene of the early 2000s – the former more influenced by krautrock and drone, the latter combining post-rock and harmonies – but they’ve been silent for the best part of a decade. Until now. The Early Years released their long-awaited third album, Modern Moonlight, at the end of May to great acclaim, while Sennen are also gearing up to share their first new material in over a decade.

Ordinary Giants

Labour Club · Glossop

Ordinary Giants is a song suite by acclaimed songwriter Robb Johnson based on the life and times of his father, Ron Johnson. A family history of the 1930s, the Second World War and the Welfare State — told through songs, spoken word, personal memory and the lives of ordinary people. There are songs and spoken-word pieces about the social realities of the 1930s, the growth of fascism, the experience of the Second World War, the NHS, comprehensive schools, anti-racism and attacks on the Welfare State by the Right. Some of the songs are funny, some are sad, some are love songs and some are political satires.

Betsey Trotwood · London

Welcome one and all to the glorious sound of the Thames Delta, coming at you live and direct from Southend-on-Sea - albeit in the middle of London. First up, garage indie rockers Invaders give forth a sound that is made from 4 cups of estuary mud, a large measurement of swagger and a heavy helping of groove. After a nerve-calming pint or three, you’ll be ready for Permanent Firmament to take the stage - Southend alumni playing songs by the Cusack/Son Of Buff/Adjustment songwriter Lance Baldock, with a sound that sips from the early Fannies, sludgy Neil Young cup with a dollop of indie-powerpop and shades of early Wilco. You’re probably on the spirits by now but Dark Globes bring their melodically driven noise-pop, lo-fi garage rock, and folk-pop infused with gentle psychedelic rock and ringing guitars. Finally - if you are still with us - The Bromides are a London-based (but big in Southend!) alternative noise-pop and garage rock band fronted by singer, guitarist, and Scratchy Records founder Simon Berridge, who also performs as Simon Bromide.
