About this event

Shane Pendergast and Lucy Farrell is on Wednesday 25 November 2026 at Cumberland Arms (Byker), Newcastle upon Tyne, with doors at 19:30. Tickets start at £22, including the booking fee.

Rooted in the rich traditions of English and Maritime folk music, Lucy Farrell and Shane Pendergast bring together two distinct yet complementary voices in contemporary folk. Lucy Farrell, a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner, is celebrated for her poetic songwriting, unconventional melodies, and the crystalline clarity of her voice. Known for her work with The Furrow Collective, Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band, and a host of other acclaimed collaborations, Farrell has carved out a singular place in English folk with her elegant, understated tenor guitar and viola arrangements. Her solo work reveals a deep lyricism and a rare ability to make the strange feel familiar, and the familiar feel extraordinary. Shane Pendergast, hailing from Prince Edward Island, Canada, carries forward a long lineage of Maritime storytellers and songkeepers. A troubadour of the East Coast, his plainspoken yet profound songwriting has earned him recognition at folk festivals worldwide, as well as Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Music PEI Awards for Second Wind (2021). His 2025 release Winter Grace offers a deeply personal reflection on the joys and hardships of life in the Maritimes.

They have a vibrancy that you can virtually see thrumming off them when they play, passionate and with the hand-brake well and truly off, and with a vibe that has had people likening them to The Levellers to The Pogues to The Smiths to The Wonderstuff” – The Crack

Amy Winehouse by Lucy Randell

Boisdale of Canary Wharf · London

“It’s rare you see such an effortless talent. Lucy is charismatic and cool through and through.” – Mathew Bridgeman, Promoter Lucy Randell approaches Amy Winehouse’s catalogue with a deep respect for its musical complexity. She emphasizes timing, phrasing and tonal contrast, the way Winehouse would land a word just behind the beat or hang a note into silence, rather than surface imitation. Lucy rejects mimicry; she interprets the songs through her own jazz and soul sensibility. Her career includes features with session groups and appearances around the UK and Australia, and she has performed at venues like Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and KOKO, stages Amy herself frequented. In a Camden Market event, Lucy articulated her method: “To sing Amy Winehouse you have to recognise that rhythm and tonal texture, and her timing. You really have to listen to how she lands her syllables.” Camden New Journal Expect a set drawn from Back to Black and Frank, delivered with Lucy’s own instrumentation and arrangements. Highlights often include “Valerie,” “Tears Dry On Their Own,” “Rehab,” “Back to Black,” “Love Is a Losing Game”. She yields space for the band...
