About this event

Substance presents Hair of the Dog is on Sunday 8 November 2026 at The Spice of Life, London, with doors at 19:00. Tickets start at £8.80, including the booking fee.

Sunday 8th of November Substance presents Hair of the Dog Featuring – Jumpin Jesse Jones + Henry Grace + Carolina Diego The Spice of Life is a Soho landmark, historic music venue and is in the heart of London's West End. Renowned for having a great live sound The Spice of Life and Substance have worked together for over 18 years to bring the very best new music to the heart of the capital. "One of the best little venues in London" Evening Standard The Line up Jumpin Jesse Jones Jumping Jesse Jones is a kick ass solo acoustic performer who’s guitar playing treads a thin red line between the funk bass of Larry Graham and the acoustic wizardry of John Renbourne. This unique hybrid of styles creates the effect of a full backing band. His voice veers precariously between Tom Waits and Elvis Costello with songs dealing with such diverse subjects as child abduction and biblical visions. He is also not adverse to mixing in a bit of overtone chanting (singing two notes at once) if applied tastefully! Past incarnations include bass player for London punksters The Cuckoo Jives and Loretta Heywood (Bomb The Bass). .... https://www.facebook.com/jumpingjessej Henry Grace Things Are Moving Al...

Betsey Trotwood · London

Welcome one and all to the glorious sound of the Thames Delta, coming at you live and direct from Southend-on-Sea - albeit in the middle of London. First up, garage indie rockers Invaders give forth a sound that is made from 4 cups of estuary mud, a large measurement of swagger and a heavy helping of groove. After a nerve-calming pint or three, you’ll be ready for Permanent Firmament to take the stage - Southend alumni playing songs by the Cusack/Son Of Buff/Adjustment songwriter Lance Baldock, with a sound that sips from the early Fannies, sludgy Neil Young cup with a dollop of indie-powerpop and shades of early Wilco. You’re probably on the spirits by now but Dark Globes bring their melodically driven noise-pop, lo-fi garage rock, and folk-pop infused with gentle psychedelic rock and ringing guitars. Finally - if you are still with us - The Bromides are a London-based (but big in Southend!) alternative noise-pop and garage rock band fronted by singer, guitarist, and Scratchy Records founder Simon Berridge, who also performs as Simon Bromide.

PROXY MUSIC + The Pink Diamond Revue + Nick Carlisle

The Lexington · London

After a fifteen year hiatus, Proxy Music are back with their conceptual art-rock schtick - a little more jaded and creaky but sounding all the better for it, and still absolutely immersed in decadent retrofuturist 1973 glamour. Thogdin Ripley: Bryan Ferry Heidi Heelz: bass and vox Charley Fucking Stone: guitar Nick Carlisle: synth wizard Oliver Whawell: sax and oboe Percy Mackay: drums and original Roxy Music DNA Is it an art project? Is it a tribute band? Who cares! It's the most fun any self-respecting Roxy afficionado can have with their clothes on... Support comes from THE PINK DIAMOND REVUE “ Trying to describe them is like trying to explain a dream after three days without sleep, somewhere between 1950s rock ’n’ roll, acid house, synth‑punk, and some late‑night broadcast from a different dimension. They’ve built a sound that’s totally their own, even if nobody can agree what planet it came from. Imagine vintage blues smashing into relentless electronic grooves, fuzz‑drenched guitars welded to metronomic beats, a fever dream where the future dances with the past and nobody remembers who started the music. And then there’s the stage show, Tim Lane prowling lik...
