About this event

Swell is on Wednesday 4 November 2026 at Betsey Trotwood, London, with doors at 19:30. Tickets start at £24.20, including the booking fee.

Swell return to London for their first show here in over 16 years. It is safe to say no band sounds quite like Swell and two of the original members, Sean Kirkpatrick and John Dettman Lytle are hitting the road with two newer members Philippe Gunst and Tim Adams to tie in with the reissue of the band's mesmerizing second album ...Well? which was originally released on Beggars Banquet and Virgin records throughout Europe where they toured often including headline slots at Dingwalls and European festivals. Following the passing of David Freel Swell did a very successful European tour that found out a lot of fans still cared with Johan and Phillip from post punk band Fragment finishing off the line up. This will be the smallest London show the band has ever played.

Welcome one and all to the glorious sound of the Thames Delta, coming at you live and direct from Southend-on-Sea - albeit in the middle of London. First up, garage indie rockers Invaders give forth a sound that is made from 4 cups of estuary mud, a large measurement of swagger and a heavy helping of groove. After a nerve-calming pint or three, you’ll be ready for Permanent Firmament to take the stage - Southend alumni playing songs by the Cusack/Son Of Buff/Adjustment songwriter Lance Baldock, with a sound that sips from the early Fannies, sludgy Neil Young cup with a dollop of indie-powerpop and shades of early Wilco. You’re probably on the spirits by now but Dark Globes bring their melodically driven noise-pop, lo-fi garage rock, and folk-pop infused with gentle psychedelic rock and ringing guitars. Finally - if you are still with us - The Bromides are a London-based (but big in Southend!) alternative noise-pop and garage rock band fronted by singer, guitarist, and Scratchy Records founder Simon Berridge, who also performs as Simon Bromide.

Sairie + Roger Kunkel & Stoo Odom + Simon Breed

Betsey Trotwood · London

Clerkenville East-West presents an evening of entrancing and extraordinary music. We have the London launch of the debut album by Brighton-based ethereal folk trio Sairie, from the US - Roger Kunkel + Stoo Odom - formerly of mighty acid/ Paisley/ desert rockers Thin White Rope, and gripping London singer-songwriter Simon Breed. After releasing a series of captivating singles and EPs since 2020, SAIRIE launch their first full-length album, ‘Beneath the Spreading Tree’. It continues the trio's exploration of early 70’s folk influences, blending otherworldly atmospherics with stripped-back arrangements. In a four star review, The Guardian heralded its "glistening psych-folk...Singer Emma Morton brings an indie-girl chorister’s brightness to this captivating debut album, on songs with hints of darkness that sound ages-old". While KLOF Magazine wrote: "Sairie’s long-awaited debut sounds like a lo-fi Pentangle with an added layer of hauntological strangeness...This ageless-sounding debut is stark in its beauty and richly rewarding." https://sairie.bandcamp.com/ "80% improvised guitar and bass duo" ROGER KUNKEL & STOO ODOM were members of much lauded Californian rock band Thin W...

Rob Heron & Conrad Bird

Green Note · London

Rob Heron has been touring the world with his band The Tea Pad Orchestra for the past 15 years, throwing flavours of classic country, gypsy-swing, rhythm & blues, and rockabilly into his original songs. Originally from the Lake District, but based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, he is well-known for his live performances, and dry humour on stage. He and his band have toured with big-name Americana outfits such as Pokey LaFarge, The Dead South, and Sierra Ferrell. 2026 sees Rob recording his first ‘solo’ record since 2008, delving deeper into that lonesome country sound, yodelling cowboy songs, and more intimate song-writing. Conrad Bird is a rambling rover from North Yorkshire, and after over a decade of fronting the very popular festival act, Holy Moly & The Crackers, he is finally taking it back to the roots, with a brand-new solo EP of poetic folk songs, and Dylan-inspired balladeering. His gravelly voice and his on-stage story-telling result in a very charming stage show. Together, the Cumbrian cowboy, and the Yorkshire rover are heading off on a country-wide tour, both promoting their new solo releases, and briefly taking a step back from the wild rock & roll circus!
