About this event

The Fae Folkrooms : Tightrope Moon is on Sunday 21 February 2027 at The Geldart, Cambridge, with doors at 19:00. Tickets start at £8.80, including the booking fee.

Join us in The Fae Folkrooms for an evening of music, poetry and connection, with performances from local artists and invited special guests. The Fae Folkrooms celebrates the underground, the otherworldly, the alternative, the queer and the extraordinary. This month’s special guest is instrumental folk duo Tightrope Moon, made up of Seth Bye (fiddle) and Cori Smith (viola). Tightrope Moon cast a silver web over their audiences as strings, vocals and electronics entwine in celestial sounds and hypnotic melodies. From gronky re-imaginings of English, Swedish and American tunes to delicate compositions and ethereal improvisations, their spiraling melodies feel like secrets whispered in the dark. The duo’s electrifying groove-based tunes create a sound that is otherworldly, yet deeply rooted in tradition. Their songs spin out stories old and new, as haunting vocal harmonies floating over delicate pizzicato latticework. Tales of the forest merge with daydreams in the big city as they infuse acoustic instruments with eerie experimental electronics. For Tightrope Moon, making music is an intimate alchemy - carefully crafting ‘other worlds’ and sharing them with audiences across th...

The Fae Folkrooms : Craven

The Geldart · Cambridge

Join us in The Fae Folkrooms for an evening of music, poetry and connection, with performances from local artists and invited special guests. The Fae Folkrooms celebrates the underground, the otherworldly, the alternative, the queer and the extraordinary. This month’s special guest is Craven, a part English, part Welsh, dark folk trio based in the South West. Their music is at once grinding and symphonic, but also delicate and ethereal. Their sound draws far and wide from punk, electronic music, and film music as well as traditional music from both Europe and the wider world. The trio takes traditional music and upends it, using word-painting to create soundworlds for age-old stories. From songs exploring transness, queerness, yearning and bitterness, to white-hot rage against injustice, Craven make a beautiful Frankenstein's Monster of British folk music. From spit and sawdust DIY venues to the home of English Folk - Cecil Sharp House, Craven’s performances leave you speechless and tearful, engrossing audiences from many genres and backgrounds. Their music is an exploration into the ideas and opportunities of what is possible for folk music. Craven comprises Will Bremner (Acco...

The Fae Folkrooms : Anna Anise

The Geldart · Cambridge

Join us in The Fae Folkrooms for an evening of music, poetry and connection, with performances from local artists and invited special guests. The Fae Folkrooms celebrates the underground, the otherworldly, the alternative, the queer and the extraordinary. This month’s special guest is singer-songwriter Anna Anise. Anna is a radiant voice in modern folk, blending melodic hooks, rich vocals, and full-bodied guitar tunings with the heritage of the Cornish language to create something truly captivating. Rooted in her Cornish identity, her latest work brings a rhythmic, lament-tinged optimism to the evolving sound of Kernewek in song. As a performer, Anna has played all over the UK, from venues such as Green Note in London and Cobalt Studios in Newcastle to festivals like Green Man and Between the Trees. In 2024, she co-headlined a spring tour with violinist and songwriter boci, and completed an 18-date support tour with the folk trio Hands of the Heron. After a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2025, Anna and her supporters raised the funds to record her debut bilingual album, Aneth (meaning ‘marvel’ or ‘wonder’ in Cornish) set for release late 2026. Aidan Thorne and Jason Ball, David Ian Roberts

The Globe at Hay · Hereford

Aidan Thorne & Jason Ball Invoke nostalgia, and rekindle a memory of a time and/or place. The pieces are engulfed in a fog of guitar ambience and measured 6 string bass textures. Deeply rooted in jazz, the style carefully glides between written and improvised elements. Some of the compositions were realised and refined from recordings of loose jam sessions. One may hear nods to influences from 70’s ECM records such as Terje Rypdall or Bill Frizell. "A fantastic deep dive into lesser-known Welsh folk tunes” Jude Rodgers, The Guardian “An unforgettable musical experience” **** Ian Mann, Jazzmann Blog “a beguiling instrumental set" - Tim Cumming, Songlines David Ian Roberts will be performing a new set of unreleased instrumental electric guitar pieces ahead of recording his new album. Owing as much to Jeff Buckley's solo guitar work as to folk influences Nick Drake or Bert Jansch, Roberts uses the simplicity of just a telecaster and a reverb pedal to intimate but dazzling effect. "A quiet masterpiece” Mark Radcliffe BBC Radio 2 "A performance of astounding artistry - guitar patterns that match even the legacies of a Nick Drake or Sufjan Stevens" RnR "Quietly Exceptional" U...
