Afflecks Palace Live @ The Deaf Institute, Manchester

The Deaf Institute · Manchester

Two years after frontman J. Fender suffered a widowmaker heart attack on a flight from North Carolina to London, Afflecks Palace return with Sunshine Death — a record born from survival, recovery and the strange psychological landscape that follows a near-death experience. Self-produced by the band, it’s their most urgent and uncompromising work yet: a record about confronting mortality, refusing to stand still and choosing to keep moving forward. After extensive Radio play by 𝗕𝗕𝗖 𝟲𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰, 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗫, 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝟭 and being championed by the likes of 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗾 (𝟲𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰), 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹 (𝗢𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘀/𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗹𝗲 (𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿) have lead to the band performing alongside legends such as 𝗡𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿, 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙩 & 𝗥𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 on tour and at coveted festival slots across the UK.

Joe Topping

Spring Bank Arts Centre · New Mills

In association with Live & Local step into an evening of powerful songs, captivating stories and unforgettable musicianship with Joe Topping - a Liverpool folk singer and multi-instrumentalist whose journey has taken him from the semi-finals of TV’s The Voice during the Covid pandemic to stages alongside some of the biggest names in British folk. A former member of Ashley Hutchings’ legendary Rainbow Chasers, Joe has performed and recorded with leading figures from the folk world, including members of Fairport Convention and Andy Irvine. He has also toured as stand-in lead vocalist for BBC2 award-winning “Best Live Act” Home Service. Now, Joe brings his own show to the stage: a rich blend of original songs, masterful musicianship and storytelling that draws you in from the very first note. With a charismatic presence and a sound described as a meeting point between Ry Cooder, Woody Guthrie and Paul Brady, Joe creates an atmosphere where every song feels personal and every story feels shared.
