The much-demanded THIRD appearance from The Jake Leg Jug Band, bringing you the authentic sounds of 1920's and 30's America - Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Ragtime - and putting their own twist on it. Songs of murder, betrayal, gambling, liquor and redemption. After self-releasing their debut album, the band signed to one of the UK's top independent jazz labels, recording 3 albums as part of the 'Vintage Recording Project' - essentially recording live around ribbon microphones, as it would have been back in the 1930’s. A further three albums were released in four years on the Green Bullet record label including their first ever live album. 2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the band and saw them play over 100 gigs, taking in dates from Scotland to Cornwall and South Wales to Suffolk. 2023 was the band’s busiest ever year, and they bring their new live show to promote their latest album Hello Central. "A masterpiece of nostalgic music" Folk North West "Instrumental virtuosity" Blues & Rhythm "Good time music from a good-time group" The Jazz Rag "A fine feast of good-time music" Blues News (Norway) “The band mesh together like a well-oiled machine. Smokin’!” Spiral Earth “Pretty...

Blame and Shame - a play by Rosemary Hill

York House Centre · Stony Stratford

A new play by Rosemary Hill about women who are blamed and shamed if they do not meet society’s ideal of femininity. The play focusses on two very different women – Catherine Hogarth (the wife of Charles Dickens) who was labelled an unfit mother by Dickens himself and Christine Keeler who became known as the “Temptress who rocked the Empire” in the Profumo affair which eventually brought down the Macmillan government. She was nineteen. Profumo was forty six, but it was apparently all Keeler’s fault! Over 16. References to sex and violence. Tickets £12.00 or £10.00 (concessions - unwaged) from https://wegottickets.com/ Rosemary is generously donating all ticket money to York House’s "Building for the future campaign", and all profits from the bar will be added to that. Doors open 7.00pm (Saturday) and 2.30pm Sunday) and of course, there will be a York House bar offering real ale, cider, lager, wine and soft drinks More information from [email protected] or www.playsthethingtheatrecompany.co.uk For more details about York House email [email protected] or have a look at the York House website: www.york-house.org.uk
