Fergus McCreadie: 'Flight Pass' for piano, violin & cello

Arts Centre · Ashburton

Flight Pass is a bold new piano‑trio by Fergus McCreadie, commissioned by Chamber Music Scotland and Kings Place for the 2026 EFG London Jazz Festival. Known for his electrifying mix of jazz and Scottish folk, McCreadie now brings that sound into a fresh chamber setting bursting with colour and storytelling. Fergus is a Mercury Prize‑shortlisted and widely acclaimed artist. Inspired by the landscapes and narratives at the heart of his musical world, Flight Pass marks an exciting evolution in his writing, extending his musical language into a new chamber setting while retaining the melodic clarity, rhythmic lift and storytelling that define his music. Fergus writes: “The title of this work comes from one of my favourite photographs, which features a black winged kite and two of his offspring fighting over some recently caught prey in the middle of the sky. I’ve always loved to watch birds in the sky, and I loved the contrast of conflict and kinship in this photograph. That pull gave me the right feeling for giving a title to this work, which pulls and pushes in different directions over its 4 movements. Each movement flows at a different pace, and I leave it to the listener...

The Inn Theatre Company presents Shakespeare's Lunatics and Fools

Arts Centre · Ashburton

Madness is a recurring theme in Shakespeare’s plays. There are characters who go mad, characters who pretend to go mad, and characters who try to send others mad. Not to mention Shakespeare’s fools, who may seem bonkers but often speak more sense than anyone else. Modern attitudes to mental health, madness and insanity are very different from those of the 16th century, but Shakespeare’s depictions of people in mental torment is often strikingly recognisable. The Inn Theatre Company has put together a mad, crazy evening of scenes from Shakespeare’s plays on the theme of insanity, Lunatics and Fools. There will be characters you know well, such as Ophelia, Feste and King Lear, alongside some you might not be expecting. So please come and join us. You’ll be surprised, informed, amused, shocked and, above all, entertained. The running time will be around 2 hours including an interval. The Inn Theatre Company draws performers from across south Devon for their productions, which include a week of open-air performances in the idyllic setting of Dartmouth Castle every summer. The success of their recent shows: Heroes, Villains & Lovers and Dreams, Charms & Phantoms has inspired t...
