Clint Boon: In Conversation and Book Signing

The Electric Press · Leeds

The Long Play Sessions presents a very special evening with Clint Boon, musician, broadcaster, DJ and keyboard player/songwriter with the legendary Inspiral Carpets, celebrating his new book The Manchester Chronicles: True Tales of Music, Madness and Mayhem 1976–2006. Described by Guy Garvey as “the greatest rock and roll book ever written”, it’s Clint’s highly personal journey through three extraordinary decades of Manchester music. From punk and the city’s 1980s indie and psychedelic underground through Madchester, rave, and Britpop, Clint was there as Manchester became one of the most important musical cities in the world. Expect brilliant stories of rehearsal rooms, tiny venues, Top of the Pops, life on the road and encounters with Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Fall, New Order, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Elbow and Oasis. Join us for an intimate book talk, conversation and audience Q&A, with the chance to hear the stories behind the book directly from one of the defining characters of the Manchester music scene. Clint first found fame creating the unmistakable organ sound of Inspiral Carpets, and has since become a familiar broadcaster, DJ and passion...

Story Fix Exeter

Cygnet Theatre · Exeter

This is the opening Night of the Exeter Story Fix (www.artemis-storytelling.co.uk/storyfix): Amy Douglas will be sharing a powerful wondertale that she heard long ago from her mentor, the legendary Scots Traveller-Storyteller Duncan Williamson. The health of the kingdom is bound up with the health of the King. But what makes a good King? What makes a strong King? Crowns weigh heavy and taking power does not guarantee living happily ever after. An ancient tale that feels fresh, needed and relevant in today's troubled times. Award-winning author and storyteller, Amy Douglas has been integral within the modern British storytelling landscape as performer, promoter, mentor and advocate for the past three decades. "one of the leading lights of the contemporary storytelling scene" "warm and engaging" "a magical woman - sit, listen and wonder" "down-to-earth warmth and humour" In the first half, we'll be hearing stories from three Devon-based performance storytellers: Micha Colombo, Henry Everett and Rebecca Bletcher. Expect strong words, mythic resonance and a warm welcome from your host, Katy Cawkwell, current Bard of Exeter.
