Trinity Orchestra: Bridge, Elgar, Saint-Saëns

St Edmund's Church - Northwood · London

BRIDGE The Sea SAINT-SAËNS Violin Concerto No. 3 ELGAR Symphony No. 1 Trinity Orchestra Conductor: Jonathan Butcher Violin Soloist: Madeleine Jones Leader: Arwen Newband For our second concert of the season, we’re thrilled to welcome back inspiring conductor Jonathan Butcher for an evening of vivid and captivating orchestral music. We begin with Frank Bridge’s evocative The Sea, a wonderfully atmospheric portrait of the changing moods of the ocean, from a sunlit summer morning and playful shore foam to a moonlit night and a dramatic storm. Saint-Saëns’ dazzling Violin Concerto, featuring exciting rising star Madeleine Jones, brings the first half to a thrilling close. We round off the evening with Elgar’s majestic Symphony No. 1, a monumental and deeply moving work that won immediate worldwide acclaim. Its noble recurring motto theme runs through four contrasting movements, taking us from turbulent energy and a march-like Scherzo through a deeply lyrical slow movement to a triumphant and hopeful Finale. We hope you’ll join us for a memorable evening of glorious orchestral music.
