Martin McAloon of Prefab Sprout 'Steve McQueen - Slight Return' Sunday 22nd November, 6.30pm Tickets are £24.50 (+ b/f) in advance and available from See Tickets. *This is a standing show* Following the overwhelming response to last year's celebrated Two Wheels Good tour, Martin McAloon is hitting the road again this Autumn — this time bringing Prefab Sprout's landmark album Steve McQueen to towns, cities and venues that the tour didn't reach first time around. One of the most beloved British records of the 1980s, Steve McQueen will be performed in full — and that's just the beginning. As with last year's shows, Martin will also be drawing from the wider Prefab Sprout catalogue, bringing to life as many of his brother Paddy's songs as the evening will hold. Last year's repertoire stretched to over thirty songs beyond the album itself. Steve McQueen – Slight Return is a joyful acknowledgement of the demand that never quite went away. "Following the national and international success of the Two Wheels Good tour," says Martin, "it seemed right to acknowledge just how many people were asking for more — in places we hadn't yet reached. I'm buoyed by the reception these songs re...

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand-Up Years The Crescent, York Monday 26th October Doors 7pm, Show 7.30pm £20adv *This is a seated show with all seating unreserved* What?! Mark Thomas has been ‘standing up’ for 40 years? Impossible!! But how old does that make you…? Alas it is true; one of our oldest surviving alternative comics celebrates 40 years at the mic. So, here’s what he has done so far in numbers; performed comedy for 40 years, won 8 awards for performing, 4 for human rights work and 1 he invented for himself, made 6 series of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product (Channel 4), written 6 books and 5 play scripts, made 5 series of the Manifesto for Radio 4, made 3 Dispatches for Channel 4, sued the police (and won) 3 times, curated and authored 2 art exhibitions with artist Tracey Moberly and had 1 Guinness World Record for holding 20 protests in 24 hours. If that’s not enough, he’s also walked 724km around the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank, been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance, started a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale and campaigned successfully for things like trade union recognition for cinema workers and getting multinationals to chan...

Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime
The Crescent Community Venue · York
The Crescent Comedy Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime Tuesday 3rd November Doors 7pm, Show 7.30pm Tickets are £20 (+ b/f) in advance and available from See Tickets. *This is a seated show with all seating unreserved* Paul Sinha returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 after a dramatic 2023 that saw him booking a ticket to Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary half-way through his run. The autumn that followed became a flurry of tests, scans and finally the surgery which set him on the road to recovery. With no small debt to the NHS, Paul celebrated his 30th anniversary in stand-up last year. He is delighted to be touring his latest Edinburgh Fringe show around the UK. As seen on: The Chase, Taskmaster, QI, Would I Lie To You? and The Hit List. Press for 2 Sinha Lifetime: ‘12 must-see comedy shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2025 - He may entertain as a Chaser and impress as a quizzer, but he truly shines on stage. Sinha is an absolute worldie of a stand up and the fact he’s a bona fide polymath shouldn’t dilute that fact.’ Rolling Stone ‘In short, it is clever. It is honest. It is very, very funny.’ ★★★★★ Broadway Baby ‘An upbeat, quick-witted, wide-ranging, gag heavy comedy...

Sunday Jazz Lunch | Frank Sinatra
Boisdale of Canary Wharf · London
“Stephen Triffitt is the best. The greatest. Because he captures the soul of my Father.” — Frank Sinatra Jr. Some performers study Sinatra. Stephen Triffitt inhabits him. Direct from Las Vegas, he brings a show built on timing, phrasing and the quiet confidence that defined Sinatra at his peak. From "My Way" and "New York, New York" to "I’ve Got You Under My Skin" and "That’s Life", the set moves through songs that were written to be lived in, not just sung. Backed by a superb live band, Triffitt delivers them with control and ease, letting the arrangements breathe while keeping that unmistakable swing intact. His credentials are not decorative. Triffitt starred as Sinatra in the original West End production of The Rat Pack Live and has sold out the London Palladium, building a reputation as one of the most respected interpreters of this music anywhere. This is Sinatra as it works best, up close, well played and without excess. Alongside the performance, guests can enjoy Boisdale’s two-course Sunday lunch, including the 18-hour slow-roasted dry-aged rib of Scottish beef, goose fat roast potatoes and classic sides, with vegetarian options also available. THE GIFT and THE ROUND WINDOW
The Camden Club · London
THE GIFT are regarded by some as ‘the best kept secret’ in progressive and art rock. Back in the early noughties their first album ‘Awake & Dreaming’ impressed those in the know with its heady mixture of ‘70s style and contemporary soundscapes. Then there was silence...until the band reformed and released 2014’s “Land of Shadows”, an ambitious song suite packed with strong melodies and multi-layered instrumental workouts. In 2016 The Gift released their 3rd album, ‘Why The Sea Is Salt’, which Prog magazine described as a ‘masterpiece’. It fused symphonic, long form suites with tasteful shorter songs, and featured luminaries Steve Hackett and Anthony Phillips as guest musicians. In 2019 The Gift released their 4th album ‘Antenna’, which was even harder hitting than before whilst still retaining their signature sound. Then the pandemic brought silence, as well as lineup changes. But it didn’t stop the songs. For the last few years The Gift has been busy creating and recording their 5th album ‘Seven Seasons’. Inspired by Shakespeare’s ode to our mortal experience, it explores the stages of life from birth until the end of days. Like the human condit...

Healthy Junkies
Dublin Castle · London
Healthy Junkies - they’ve been around a few years now but these thermonuclear powered grunge punk alterno dynamos just go from strength to strength. Always a totally committed performance that leaves your ears throbbing, your head spinning and your mind fully saturated with punk rock joy. Excellent band. Neovenator - the best band named after a dinosaur since Bolan boogied, these guys seem to be a semblance of The Who in conflagration with The Stranglers, playing Blur like songs in the style of The Subhumans. Ok nothing like that. Very good tho. Gripper Lee - post punk and Goff flavours with a powerhouse delivery. Named of course after the blind one from Peters and Lee who was also the only sightless wrestler to kick Big Daddy’s ass on World of Sport back in the day. Tony Buggerbear supplied the hot nuggets in between sets.
