About this event

Join us in The Fae Folkrooms for an evening of music, poetry and connection, with performances from local artists and invited special guests. The Fae Folkrooms celebrates the underground, the otherworldly, the alternative, the queer and the extraordinary. This month’s special guest is Craven, a part English, part Welsh, dark folk trio based in the South West. Their music is at once grinding and symphonic, but also delicate and ethereal. Their sound draws far and wide from punk, electronic music, and film music as well as traditional music from both Europe and the wider world. The trio takes traditional music and upends it, using word-painting to create soundworlds for age-old stories. From songs exploring transness, queerness, yearning and bitterness, to white-hot rage against injustice, Craven make a beautiful Frankenstein's Monster of British folk music. From spit and sawdust DIY venues to the home of English Folk - Cecil Sharp House, Craven’s performances leave you speechless and tearful, engrossing audiences from many genres and backgrounds. Their music is an exploration into the ideas and opportunities of what is possible for folk music. Craven comprises Will Bremner (Acco...

The Fae Folkrooms : Tightrope Moon

The Geldart · Cambridge

Join us in The Fae Folkrooms for an evening of music, poetry and connection, with performances from local artists and invited special guests. The Fae Folkrooms celebrates the underground, the otherworldly, the alternative, the queer and the extraordinary. This month’s special guest is instrumental folk duo Tightrope Moon, made up of Seth Bye (fiddle) and Cori Smith (viola). Tightrope Moon cast a silver web over their audiences as strings, vocals and electronics entwine in celestial sounds and hypnotic melodies. From gronky re-imaginings of English, Swedish and American tunes to delicate compositions and ethereal improvisations, their spiraling melodies feel like secrets whispered in the dark. The duo’s electrifying groove-based tunes create a sound that is otherworldly, yet deeply rooted in tradition. Their songs spin out stories old and new, as haunting vocal harmonies floating over delicate pizzicato latticework. Tales of the forest merge with daydreams in the big city as they infuse acoustic instruments with eerie experimental electronics. For Tightrope Moon, making music is an intimate alchemy - carefully crafting ‘other worlds’ and sharing them with audiences across th...

Olivia Trummer

Divinity School Lecture Theatre · Cambridge

Pianist, singer and composer Olivia Trummer brings her singular artistry, described by Jazzwise as “a joy: eclectic, illuminating and uplifting”, to Cambridge Jazz Festival in an intimate concert of originals, jazz and popular song refreshed with classical allusions and flowing style. Classically-trained, Olivia Trummer impresses equally as a virtuosic pianist, singer, composer and improviser. Her exceptional talent and musical approach have led her to sharing the stage with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eric Clapton and Bobby McFerrin, performing at festivals like Montreux and Umbria Jazz and at London's Ronnie Scotts. This concert she performs from her solo album "Like Water“, recorded in New York by Russ Titelman (who has worked with many major artists including the Beach Boys, Chaka Kahn and George Harrison), offering songs in English, Italian and German that flow naturally from a classical prelude to a deconstructed jazz standard. Beethoven and Bach blend seamlessless with Stevie Wonder, Sting and Jerome Kern. Olivia's own songs are touching, uplifting and daring, and her scat singing, in perfect unity with the piano, has been compared to George Benson and his guitar. "A lot of jazz...

Sunday Jazz Lunch | Frank Sinatra

Boisdale of Canary Wharf · London

“Stephen Triffitt is the best. The greatest. Because he captures the soul of my Father.” — Frank Sinatra Jr. Some performers study Sinatra. Stephen Triffitt inhabits him. Direct from Las Vegas, he brings a show built on timing, phrasing and the quiet confidence that defined Sinatra at his peak. From "My Way" and "New York, New York" to "I’ve Got You Under My Skin" and "That’s Life", the set moves through songs that were written to be lived in, not just sung. Backed by a superb live band, Triffitt delivers them with control and ease, letting the arrangements breathe while keeping that unmistakable swing intact. His credentials are not decorative. Triffitt starred as Sinatra in the original West End production of The Rat Pack Live and has sold out the London Palladium, building a reputation as one of the most respected interpreters of this music anywhere. This is Sinatra as it works best, up close, well played and without excess. Alongside the performance, guests can enjoy Boisdale’s two-course Sunday lunch, including the 18-hour slow-roasted dry-aged rib of Scottish beef, goose fat roast potatoes and classic sides, with vegetarian options also available. BOISDALE OF CANA...
