Dan Whitehouse: Only Love, with Molly Rymer and Paul Hussell

Arts Centre · Ashburton

Dan Whitehouse with Molly Rymer and special guest Paul Hussell This is a change from the originally advertised lineup, as Gustaf Ljunggren is no longer able to come to the UK. Black Country singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse returns to Ashburton Arts Centre for an evening of exquisite songcraft and storytelling straight from the heart. Joined by singer Molly Rymer, whose sublime harmonies bring fresh depth and colour to his songs, Dan will draw from his extraordinary back catalogue, plus his new album Only Love. This is an intensely personal solo-piano collection exploring love, resilience and fatherhood across continents, and the ties that bind us together. He'll also perform songs from his previous albums The Glass Age, Voices From The Cones, That’s Where I Belong and beyond. Expect unforgettable melodies, spontaneous musical magic, devastating honesty and moments of profound intimacy. Special guest Paul Hussell opens the evening with songs from The Ebbing Tide, his debut album, produced by Dan in Totnes. Paul will be joined by his wife, Carole on backing vocals.

The Brothers Gillespie

Arts Centre · Ashburton

“When The Brothers Gillespie sing, a portal opens. They sing with an ancient wisdom that is entirely for us, now — nothing feels more present. Their beautiful music will open your heart” Johnny Flynn (actor and musician) The songs of Northumbrian folk alchemists The Brothers Gillespie (James and Sam Gillespie) are animated by lyrical poetry, fluid fingerstyle guitar, multi-instrumental musicianship and “the glorious tones of their blood harmony” (Sam Lee). Theirs is a music of encounter, of lark song and crow call, ash leaves and hidden ways. It is rooted in the earth and arises most strongly for them when they are out walking in the borderlands with their packs and instruments. Bringing together visionary mythopoetics with a radical spirit, the brothers tread an older path whilst singing with fierce tenderness to the present time in its grief and luminosity. Their live performances are known for a rare intimacy and the spontaneous ways they weave tales around the songs and invite audiences into the heart of the music. In...
